The #latest videos will be on Alibaba soon, following its latest move into the entertainment market. The deal is a new partnership with global media company DMG, and Hunan TV that is second only to CCTV-1 in China – and beams as far away as Macau, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Latest Videos in Bundled Service
The new offering will initially host on Hunan’s TV6, and feature film and television content, gaming, education, and online shopping, but may spread all over China. DMG will take the wheel as system operator, with Alibaba’s Tmall integrating the commercial backbone.
Variety Editions quotes the DMG CEO saying, “The intelligent home entertainment platform combines OTT and digital video through Alibaba’s Yunos to give consumers unparalleled flexibility and content choice.”
Three Distinctive Modules on Display
The new entertainment platform will feature on-demand video with look back, pause and voice control, categorised entrance, and recommendations. Content topics will be live television channels, international and Chinese movies, online shopping, education and the latest videos.
Dan Mintz Enthuses about Latest Videos
The DMG CEO believes that, “Unlike other services out there, this home entertainment platform will change the landscape of the entire industry in China. For the first time, consumers will have an amazing level of choice and options for services – from entertainment to education and everything in between,” so lots of enthusiasm evident in the C Suite.
New Bridge to America
Beijing-based DMG has offices in Los Angeles, and hopes to become the conduit for emerging synergy between American and Chinese movie companies, in terms of which it becomes the technology provider. Alibaba invested in Paramount’s Mission Impossible 5, while Hunan has signed a $375 million co-investment deal with Canadian-American Lionsgate Entertainment Corporation.
Hunan TV brings six million cable subscribers to the party so the deal should skyrocket away as soon as it launches its latest videos.
