Good news for those in China who have small children who adore Disney, Tmall and the Walt Disney Company have teamed up together to provide Disney products to the Chinese consumer market. This is the first time that Alibaba has teamed up with connecting brands and films in order to get movie merchandise to the market. Namely, the team up will mean that Chinese consumers will have access to products related to the 2015 blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is only offered through Disney.

The movie opened throughout China just yesterday, and if the movie’s success in the United States will signal how successful it will be in China, people are going to be flocking to Tmall in order to get these products.

Another first for Alibaba is working with the Taobao ticketing platform. This venture is allowing Tmall to work with brands like Audi, Lego, Ecovacs, Hasbro and so forth to bring the Avengers: Age of Ultron to the consumer market. The Director of Co-Marketing for Tmall, Sherry Lang, stated:

“We are pleased to be working with Disney and brands on Tmall to bring genuine movie merchandise to our online consumers.”

The merchandise that is currently available on Tmall related to the Avengers: Age of Ultron include items like t-shirts, robots, gold pendants and the like. Sherry Lang went onto state, “This marks another effort into further enhancing the collaboration between the participants within our platforms and to also fully utilize the resources we have across Alibaba.”

Though this is a first for Alibaba, the success that this venture is expected to have is going to ensure that it is not the last. It seems that new CEO Daniel Zhang is taking his vow of expanding into new business seriously.
